This troubleshooting section is included in the manual to give you some tips and tricks to try if things do not work the way you think they should. The most important thing to remember is safety. Do not do anything in the troubleshooting section that you are not comfortable with and you feel is un-safe. Make sure you ask for help if you need it.

Problem: I do not think my meter is working properly.

Solutions:

1. Check the battery. If you have any doubt it is weak, change it.

2. Check the leads.

            a. Put the meter onto OHMS

            b. Make sure the leads are properly plugged in

            c. Touch the two leads together

            d. If the meter is working properly the display will show a 0.

3. If number 1 and 2 check out properly, then you meter is good.

Problem: I think I just tripped the circuit breaker as I have no power to my test board.

Solution:

1. Unplug your board from the wall outlet.

2. Use your meter and turn it to AC Volts

3. Plug the two leads from your meter into the wall outlet.

4. If you have around 120 volts the breaker is not the problem, check your circuit.

5. If you do not have 120 volts ask your instructor for help. If you are not working in the classroom make sure you have unplugged your board, go to the breaker panel and find and reset the tripped breaker.

Problem: I just got a shock from the circuit I am working on.

Solution:

1. Don’t panic, it has happened to all of us.

2. Unplug your board from the wall.

3. Have a seat. Make sure you are feeling OK before continuing.

4. If in the classroom, please let your instructor know. This is for your safety.

5. When ready take a look at your board, check your wiring and find out how you got shocked.

6. When you have identified and solved any problems continue from where you left off.

7. If at any time after you get shocked you feel pain, dizziness, etc. make sure you let someone else know what has happened. If not in the classroom you MUST seek medical help.
